So we may have done Hakone over 3 weeks ago but to keep with the spirit of the games we can only now reveal the Gym Battle with Giovanni. He’s never been the toughest final Gym Leader ever, but I suppose originally the shocking reveal was enough to keep us players on guard. Still here it is the final battle for the final badge! Ratchet’s Line-up Venusaur Grass/Poison Gyarados Water/Flying Dugtrio Ground Jynx Ice/Psychic Hitmonlee Fighting Giovanni’s Line-up Rhydon Ground/Rock Dugtrio Ground Nidoqueen Poison/Ground Nidoking Poison/Ground Rhydon Ground/Rock Continue reading Battle for the Earth Badge – Ratchet vs. Giovanni: The Viridian City Gym Leader
So there we have it. After 30 days of travelling our adventure is over. We’re back in the United Kingdom and settling back into normality once more. Much sleep is still needed after our long day of travelling, but I do wonder how many days it’ll take before the urge to hit the road comes back. You never see Ash at home for more than a week it seems before he’s off to another region, I personally don’t think the guy can sit still. Better him than Red, who seems to prefer living alone in the mountains that going back … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #30 – Kanto Complete – The End of Our Adventure
Our day in Saffron City hasn’t been our most successful to date. All the Imperial Palace gardens are closed on Fridays and the rain hasn’t helped us feel motivated. That darn Team Rocket is behind this I’m sure of it. Nevertheless the Palace Gardens will still be there tomorrow and there’s a couple more sites within the Marunouchi area for us to see. Thus the Saffron City post will conclude tomorrow with what I suspect will be the Saffron City Gym but for now we’ll concentrate on the other sights. First one is one we’ve become very familiar with these … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #26 – Saffron City/Marunouchi Part 1
This time I face Koga for the Soul Badge. Incidentally the Soul Badge was supposed to be the name of the badge that psychic type leader Sabrina gave to the the player, whereas the Marsh Badge she gives out was supposed to be Koga’s. It makes sense considering the connotations of the words. Marsh matches Poison whereas Soul is more appropriate for Psychic but never mind. Anyway onto the battle! Ratchet’s Line-up Jynx Ice/Psychic Gyarados Water/Flying Pidgeot Normal/Flying Mr. Mime Psychic Koga’s Line-up Koffing Poison Muk Poison Koffing Poison Weezing Poison Continue reading Battle for the Soul Badge – Ratchet vs. Koga: Fuchsia City Gym Leader
Fuchsia City is the “Happening and Passion City” but has also been known as “It’s Passion Pink”. We’re not sure where the pink is here in Tateyama, perhaps the pink involves the seasonal cherry blossom trees which we believe bloom around Shirohama Park where the Castle Tower lies. But it is a somewhat fitting place to match with the city within the games. The Tateyama Castle for starters, is a reconstructed castle tower in 16th century style. It is built atop the old stronghold of the Satomi family, who ruled this area for 170 years. They ruled here despite being … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #24 – Fuchsia City/Tateyama
It’s time for Shinjuku, the district that is alive and kicking, just like the Pokémon counterpart Celadon City. This district is on the western side of Tokyo and is large in scale and diverse in sights, named a ‘Fukutoshin’ (meaning ‘secondary heart of the city”). Overall though there are two distinct parts of Shinjuku to take note of. Firstly there’s West Shinjuku, filled with skyscrapers and important buildings such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices. Most of the taller structures here have observatories or restaurants on their top-floors meaning even if you don’t work here, you can still enjoy the … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #22 – Celadon City/Shinjuku
An hour away from Tsuchiura by train is the village of Tokai, an ordinary spot with not much in the way of excitement going on. However along the coast of this village stands one of the most important facilities in Modern Japan, the Tokai Nuclear Power Plant. It’s this particular plant that is counterpart to the once abandoned Power Plant hidden along Route 10 in the Kanto region. In actuality the Tokai plant today seems to match both the deserted Red and Blue, and the fully functioning Gold and Silver Power Plant within the games. Commissioned in 1966, The Tokai … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #16 – Power Plant/Tokai Nuclear Power Plant
