The most startling aspect of Pokémon’s legacy is simply that it was born perfect. The formula has received numerous bells and whistles over the years, but at its heart Pokémon is still the rock-paper-scissors, turn based RPG series it was … Continue reading Pokémon Red and Blue – Legacy
He peered through the blinds and gazed down at the streets of Saffron City below. Up on the 12th floor of the Silph Company building, he was able to see far across the Kanto region. He saw the white sails … Continue reading Pokémon Red & Blue – Team Rocket’s Boss – Part II of III
The president’s whimpering was beginning to get on his nerves. The head of Silph Co. sat on his grand sofa, gripped to his seat by the fingers that seemed to be the only part of his body that hadn’t turned … Continue reading Pokémon Red and Blue – Team Rocket’s Boss – Part I of III
The Final Fantasy name is one synonymous with the JRPG genre, after its string of successes from the late 80s through the 90s. However the general murmur at the moment is that the modern series has lost its edge, dividing … Continue reading Are the Final Fantasy Classics Undermining the Modern Series?
So we may have done Hakone over 3 weeks ago but to keep with the spirit of the games we can only now reveal the Gym Battle with Giovanni. He’s never been the toughest final Gym Leader ever, but I suppose originally the shocking reveal was enough to keep us players on guard. Still here it is the final battle for the final badge! Ratchet’s Line-up Venusaur Grass/Poison Gyarados Water/Flying Dugtrio Ground Jynx Ice/Psychic Hitmonlee Fighting Giovanni’s Line-up Rhydon Ground/Rock Dugtrio Ground Nidoqueen Poison/Ground Nidoking Poison/Ground Rhydon Ground/Rock Continue reading Battle for the Earth Badge – Ratchet vs. Giovanni: The Viridian City Gym Leader
So there we have it. After 30 days of travelling our adventure is over. We’re back in the United Kingdom and settling back into normality once more. Much sleep is still needed after our long day of travelling, but I do wonder how many days it’ll take before the urge to hit the road comes back. You never see Ash at home for more than a week it seems before he’s off to another region, I personally don’t think the guy can sit still. Better him than Red, who seems to prefer living alone in the mountains that going back … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #30 – Kanto Complete – The End of Our Adventure
I never really think much to the Gym Battle with Blaine. Maybe it’s the fact you face him straight after a Fire Type based dungeon, or that he uses Growlithe and Ponyta in his team despite being the 7th Gym Leader in the region, or because you go on to face the final gym directly after this one, therefore making him somewhat foregattable. It’s just he’s never felt like a true challenge… Will this time be any different? Ratchet’s Line-up Hitmonlee Fighting Gyarados Water/Flying Dugtrio Ground Zapdos Electric/Flying Blaine’s Line-up Growlithe Fire Ponyta Fire Rapidash Fire Arcanine Fire Continue reading Battle for the Volcano Badge! – Ratchet vs Blaine: Cinnabar Island Gym Leader
Our last full day in Japan has come to a close and thus we wrap up by obtaining our final badge. Of course there’s the Earth Badge but fortunately we picked that up in Hakone when we were there the first time! However as for Indigo Plateau itself, there isn’t truly a spot in Japan’s Kanto region that can call itself a counterpart. A little anticlimatic I know but nevermind. Perhaps the base of Mt. Fuji would have been appropriate (as Fuji itself is actually represented by Mt. Silver that divides Kanto and Johto and is training ground to Red). … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #29 – Promise and the Volcano Badge
Sunday 27th September was my birthday and we spent the day in Yokohama, flying around the rides of Cosmo World, watching hula dancing in Hawaiian Town and taking another opportunity to visit the Pokémon Centre. We also went down to Shibuya in Tokyo to meet a close friend and do some Karaoke! But the original plan had been quite different, something a lot more Pokémon related. But things don’t always work the way you planned while travelling, so now we must talk about the place we didn’t get to see; Cinnabar Island. Cinnabar Island is based on the island of … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #28 – The End of the Journey – What did we miss?!
With another city comes another Gym and this area of Tokyo houses the toughest Kanto Gym Leader of them all. Sabrina and her Psychic Type Pokémon are super powered monsters in Generation I, especially considering the abundance of Poison Type creatures in the Pokédex, and no offensive Ghost or Bug Type attacks available. So to beat a Psychic, you need to bring a Psychic, but anyway it’s time for a battle. Ratchet’s Line-up Dugtrio Ground Gyarados Water/Flying Jynx Ice/Psychic Zapdos Electric/Flying Sabrina’s Line-up Kadabra Psychic Mr. Mime Psychic Venomoth Bug/Poison Alakazam Psychic Continue reading Battle for the Marsh Badge! – Ratchet vs. Sabrina: Saffron City Gym Leader
