Battle for the Soul Badge – Ratchet vs. Koga: Fuchsia City Gym Leader

This time I face Koga for the Soul Badge. Incidentally the Soul Badge was supposed to be the name of the badge that psychic type leader Sabrina gave to the the player, whereas the Marsh Badge she gives out was supposed to be Koga’s. It makes sense considering the connotations of the words. Marsh matches Poison whereas Soul is more appropriate for Psychic but never mind. Anyway onto the battle! Ratchet’s Line-up Jynx            Ice/Psychic Gyarados   Water/Flying Pidgeot      Normal/Flying Mr. Mime   Psychic Koga’s Line-up Koffing     Poison Muk          Poison Koffing     Poison Weezing   Poison Advertisements Continue reading Battle for the Soul Badge – Ratchet vs. Koga: Fuchsia City Gym Leader

World of Pokémon Day #24 – Fuchsia City/Tateyama

Fuchsia City is the “Happening and Passion City” but has also been known as “It’s Passion Pink”. We’re not sure where the pink is here in Tateyama, perhaps the pink involves the seasonal cherry blossom trees which we believe bloom around Shirohama Park where the Castle Tower lies. But it is a somewhat fitting place to match with the city within the games. The Tateyama Castle for starters, is a reconstructed castle tower in 16th century style. It is built atop the old stronghold of the Satomi family, who ruled this area for 170 years. They ruled here despite being … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #24 – Fuchsia City/Tateyama

World of Pokémon Day #23 – On the outskirts of Fuchsia City

We’re now sitting on the southern end of the Bozo Penninsula, our hotel just on the edge of the bay where Tateyama/Fuchsia City lies. It was quite a long journey down here but the coastline is beautiful. As such it’s been a slow day on the Pokémon journey which we’ve spent relaxing until our trip into Tateyama tomorrow. So tune in then as we try to obtain the Soul Badge. Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #23 – On the outskirts of Fuchsia City

Battle for the Rainbow Badge! – Ratchet vs. Erika: Celadon City Gym Leader

So we finally made it to Shinjuku, the real world counterpart to Celadon City and that means it’s time for a Gym battle. I had planned not to bring Ivysaur with me this time, instead perhaps trying out my newly evolved Flareon but alas you need Cut for the Celadon City Gym and only Ivysaur could use it. But there is newcomer Mr. Mime in the mix! Anyway here’s the battle… Ratchet’s Line-up Mr. Mime    Psychic Pidgeotto   Normal/Flying Ivysaur        Grass/Poison Erika’s Line-up Victreebel   Grass/Poison Tangela       Grass Vileplume    Grass/Poison Continue reading Battle for the Rainbow Badge! – Ratchet vs. Erika: Celadon City Gym Leader

World of Pokémon Day #22 – Celadon City/Shinjuku

It’s time for Shinjuku, the district that is alive and kicking, just like the Pokémon counterpart Celadon City. This district is on the western side of Tokyo and is large in scale and diverse in sights, named a ‘Fukutoshin’ (meaning ‘secondary heart of the city”). Overall though there are two distinct parts of Shinjuku to take note of. Firstly there’s West Shinjuku, filled with skyscrapers and important buildings such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices. Most of the taller structures here have observatories or restaurants on their top-floors meaning even if you don’t work here, you can still enjoy the … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #22 – Celadon City/Shinjuku

World of Pokémon Day #21 – Tokyo Game Show and the Akihabara District

Tokyo Game Show 2015! My first ever gaming convention! We were excited and wanted to get there bright and early not to miss out. Only we didn’t realise the etiquette involved in such things. We found out after around an hour from the convention starting and of us adjusting to the magnitude of the event, we learnt that you needed to reserve a ticket to try out a game or piece of software. Sadly an hour was all that was needed to have every game we wanted to try fully sold out. It was a blow but thankfully there was … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #21 – Tokyo Game Show and the Akihabara District

World of Pokémon Day #20 – Further afield in Lavender Town

Turns out the Narita area has quite a few attractions to do with Japanese history. Today we went to visit two of these attractions and it’s got me thinking more about how this place acts as the real life Lavender Town. Outside the bustling Narita City Centre is the Open-Air Museum, Boso no Mura. Here several recreations of old Japanese structures have been placed dating from the Edo and Early Meiji Periods (17th to 19th century). There’s There’s merchant street, an old samurai residence and several old farm houses to go and explore. What’s noteworthy about the museum however is … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #20 – Further afield in Lavender Town

World of Pokémon Day #19 – Lavender Town/Narita – The Shinsoji Temple

If there’s anywhere in Kanto you might feel a little apprehensive about staying the night, it’s Lavender Town. The place is well known to be haunted by ghosts and not just Ghost Type Pokémon either but genuine spirits back from the dead. It’s home to a massive grave sight where Channellers are possessed by these malevolent beings. It’s downright spooky. That is it used to be, but by the time Pokémon Gold and Silver can around the graveyard had been converted into a Radio Broadcasting Tower and as such is a much more lively place to be. So where does … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #19 – Lavender Town/Narita – The Shinsoji Temple

World of Pokémon Day #18 – Vermilion City/Yokohama

Vermilion City is an important place in the Kanto region. It’s the major port connecting to other places in the Pokémon World including Johto and the Sevii Islands, not to mention it’s American Gym Leader (although it’s bee  suggested he’s from the Unova region after all) and the world cruise ship S.S. Anne calling in at the harbour. But how does this compare to it’s real-life counterpart Yokohama. Well truly there’s one major similarity between the two, they are both the major ports to their country. Yokohama used to be a tiny fishing village until the 19th century Meiji restoration. … Continue reading World of Pokémon Day #18 – Vermilion City/Yokohama
